Online Video Downloader for Every Platform: What Works and How to Use It

Online Video Downloader for Every Platform: What Works and How to Use It

Most people only need to save a video now and then: a clip you posted last year and lost the original of, a tutorial you want offline for a flight, a Creative Commons scene for a class project. Installing software for that feels like overkill. An online video downloader does the job in the browser: paste a link, pick a format, save the file. This guide covers the one on Online Toolsz: which platforms work, which don't, what each button gives you, and how to copy the right link in each app.

Which platforms the online video downloader supports

We test the tool against real links instead of listing every site we have ever heard of. These work with public content:

PlatformWhat you can pasteFast download buttonAudio
YouTubeRegular videosYes, quality depends on the videoM4A
YouTube ShortsSingle ShortsYes, quality depends on the videoM4A
TikTokVideo postsYes, up to the original upload qualityMP3
InstagramPublic posts and ReelsYesM4A
FacebookPublic videos, Watch, ReelsYesM4A
X (Twitter)Public posts with videoNo, MP4 goes through our serverMP3

The Fast download button only appears when the platform offers a ready-made MP4 with picture and sound in one file. When it is missing, the high-quality MP4 button still works; it just takes the longer route through our server.

What does not work right now

  • Playlists and whole channels. One link, one video.
  • Subtitle or caption files.
  • Live streams.
  • Private, friends-only, members-only and age-restricted videos.
  • Instagram or Facebook Stories that have already expired.
  • Douyin and Bilibili links. They are not supported at the moment.

There is also no 4K or 8K guarantee. You get the best version the platform hands over for that particular video, and that varies a lot between uploads.

How to download a video online in four steps

  1. Open the video in the app or browser and copy its link. The section below shows where the link lives on each platform.
  2. Go to the Online Toolsz video downloader and paste the link into the box.
  3. Press Get Video Info. A card appears with the thumbnail, title, channel, duration and a badge showing the platform. Check it is the video you meant before going further.
  4. Choose Fast download, Download MP4 video (high quality) or Download audio. The file arrives through your browser's normal download.

No account, no extension, no app. It behaves the same in Chrome, Safari, Edge or Firefox, on a phone or a laptop.

The three buttons, and which one to press

Fast download (quality shown in brackets)

This pulls the best ready-made MP4 straight from the platform's own CDN, so there is no processing step on our side. The label tells you the resolution before you click, for example 720p or 1080p. On older YouTube uploads the only combined file may be 240p or 360p, which is why the label sometimes looks disappointing.

Download MP4 video (high quality)

Our download server fetches the best version it can, prepares a single MP4 and then passes it to your browser. It takes longer than Fast download, but it is the one to use when the fast option is low resolution or not shown at all, as with X posts.

Download audio (M4A or MP3)

Sound only. Most platforms give M4A, which plays on iPhone, Android, Windows and Mac without conversion. TikTok audio and anything prepared by the server can come as MP3. The button label says which one you will get.

Copying the right link on each platform

A lot of failed downloads start with the wrong link: a profile address instead of a post, or a share message that bundled text around the URL. Here is what a good link looks like.

YouTube and YouTube Shorts

In the app, tap Share under the video, then Copy link. You will get a youtube.com/watch?v= or youtu.be address; Shorts look like youtube.com/shorts/ followed by an ID. On a computer, copy the address bar. There is more detail in our guides to downloading YouTube Shorts and choosing between YouTube MP4 and audio.

TikTok

Tap the Share arrow on the right side of the video, then Copy link. The app usually hands you a short vm.tiktok.com or vt.tiktok.com link; in a desktop browser the address reads tiktok.com/@username/video/ and a long number. See how to download a TikTok video, saving TikTok audio as MP3 and fixes for TikTok downloads that fail.

Instagram

Tap the paper-plane Share icon under the post or Reel and choose Copy link. Only public accounts will load. Our Instagram Reels guide covers carousels and Stories.

Facebook

Tap Share and then Copy link. On the website, open the video on its own page and copy the address. Videos in private groups or shared with friends only will not work. The Facebook video and Reels guide explains the difference.

X (Twitter)

Tap the share icon on the post, then Copy link. The address looks like x.com/username/status/ and a number. Read downloading video from X for posts that contain several clips.

Saving the file on iPhone and Android

On iPhone, Safari asks whether you want to download the file, then stores it in the Downloads folder of the Files app. Open it there, tap Share and choose Save Video to move it into Photos. On Android, Chrome saves to the Downloads folder, and most gallery apps show it in a Downloads album shortly after. The full walkthrough is in saving downloaded videos to iPhone and Android.

Common errors and quick fixes

  • No video card appears: make sure the link points to a single post, not a profile, channel or playlist.
  • The card loads but the download stops: try the other MP4 button, or refresh and try again a minute later. Platforms sometimes refuse a request that goes through fine on the second attempt.
  • The video is private or restricted: no downloader can open it, and none should.
  • A short TikTok link fails: open it in your browser first, then copy the full address it redirects to.
  • Fast download only offers 360p: use Download MP4 video (high quality) instead.

For the longer list, see why video downloads fail on private or restricted links.

Privacy: what happens to the link you paste

To read a video's details and prepare files, the link is processed by our server and download service. We never ask for your login to any platform, which is also why the tool cannot reach anything that sits behind one. If you would rather a particular link was not sent anywhere, don't paste it.

Download responsibly

Being able to save a file is not the same as being allowed to use it. Stick to videos you made yourself, videos whose owner has given you permission, and material released under Creative Commons or in the public domain; our guide to finding Creative Commons YouTube videos shows how to check. Follow each platform's terms and copyright rules, don't re-upload other people's videos, and credit the creator whenever you share. This is general guidance, not legal advice.

FAQ

Is the online video downloader free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, no download limit to unlock and nothing to install.

Can I download a whole playlist or channel at once?

No. Paste one video link at a time. Playlists and channel pages are not supported.

Why is there no Fast download button for some videos?

The platform did not offer a ready-made MP4 with sound for that video, or, as with X, the file always has to be prepared on our server. Use Download MP4 video (high quality).

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes, in any modern mobile browser. Downloads land in Files on iPhone and in Downloads on Android.

Can I download Douyin or Bilibili videos?

Not right now. Both are currently unsupported, so links from those sites will not load.
