TikTok Video Download Not Working? Causes and Fixes That Help

You copied the link, pasted it, pressed the button and got nothing, or got a card that refused to turn into a file. When a TikTok video download is not working, the cause is usually one of a handful of things, and most of them are visible within a minute if you know where to look. Some can be fixed with a cleaner link or a retry. A few can't be fixed at all, and it is worth knowing which is which before you spend an evening on it.

Quick troubleshooting in six steps

1. Open the TikTok link in a private or incognito browser window. If the video plays there without logging in, it is public and should be downloadable.
2. Go back to the app and copy a fresh link: Share arrow, then Copy link.
3. If the link starts with vm.tiktok.com or vt.tiktok.com and fails, open it in your browser and copy the full address it redirects to.
4. Paste only the link into the Online Toolsz video downloader, with no text before or after it, and press Get Video Info.
5. If the card loads but the download fails, try the other button: Fast download or Download MP4 video (high quality).
6. Still failing? Refresh the page, wait a minute and try once more.

If step one already fails, skip ahead to the private and deleted video sections. No amount of retrying will help there.

Common causes and their fixes

The account is private

Private accounts show their videos only to approved followers. The downloader never logs in to TikTok, so it sees what a stranger sees: nothing. If the video is yours, you can switch the account to public for a moment, or better, save the video from your own drafts or profile in the app.

The video is friends-only or set to Only me

Even on a public account, each video has its own privacy setting. A clip shared with friends only behaves exactly like a private account as far as the tool is concerned.

The video was deleted or the account was removed

A link to a deleted video still looks perfectly normal. Open it in a browser: if TikTok says the video is unavailable, there is no file left to download anywhere.

The short link didn't resolve

The app hands out short links like vm.tiktok.com/ followed by a code. They redirect to the full address, usually tiktok.com/@username/video/ plus a long number. Short links usually work, but when one doesn't, pasting the full address removes a step that can go wrong.

Extra text came along with the link

Links shared through a chat app often arrive wrapped in a sentence or with emojis attached. Paste just the URL, starting at https.

You copied a profile or sound page

A tiktok.com/@username link is a profile, and a link containing /music/ is a sound page. Neither is a single video. Open the specific clip and copy its own link.

The video is limited by region

Some videos are only available in certain countries. Because the request is processed by our server, a region limit can block it even when the video plays fine on your phone. There is nothing to change on your side in this case.

It is LIVE, a Story or a photo post

TikTok LIVE broadcasts are not supported, and Stories that have expired are gone. Photo slideshows are image posts rather than video files, so don't expect them to download as an MP4.

The platform said no, just this once

TikTok occasionally refuses a request that works perfectly well a minute later. If the card loaded once, a retry is genuinely worth it.

The download finished but something is off

• The file isn't in your gallery (iPhone): Safari saves to the Files app first. Open Files, go to Downloads, open the video, tap Share and choose Save Video.
• The file isn't in your gallery (Android): look in the Downloads folder with your file manager. Opening it once usually makes the gallery notice it.
• The video won't play: the download may have been cut short on a weak connection. Delete the partial file and download again on Wi-Fi.
• It plays, but the watermark is there: that is expected. The tool saves the file TikTok serves and does not edit videos. For a clean copy of your own work, export from drafts or your editing app.

Limits no fix will change

Some failures are not bugs. The tool is designed to fetch public video posts only, so private, friends-only and deleted videos stay out of reach, as do LIVE streams and expired Stories. Douyin links are not supported right now. We also don't promise a watermark-free file.
