Split a PDF into individual pages

This tool takes one PDF and turns the pages you choose into separate PDF files. After you add a document, every page appears as a thumbnail. You tick the pages you want, click one button, and receive a ZIP archive with one single-page PDF for each selected page.

It suits anyone who receives combined documents but needs to hand them on in pieces: an office worker separating a batch of scanned invoices, a student pulling one chapter page out of a long handout, or someone who needs to send only the signature page of a contract. Because each page becomes its own file, you can rename, share or archive them individually.

How to split a PDF

  1. Drop your PDF onto the upload area, or click it to choose a file. The tool works with one PDF at a time.
  2. Wait for the page thumbnails to load under Select Pages to Split. Every page is selected by default and is marked with a blue border and a check mark.
  3. Click a thumbnail to deselect or reselect that page. Use Deselect All to start from an empty selection when you only need a few pages, or Select All to pick everything again.
  4. Check the button at the bottom. It shows how many pages will be extracted, for example Extract 3 Pages to ZIP.
  5. Click the button. A ZIP file named after your document with -split at the end downloads to your device.
  6. Open the ZIP. Each page is saved as a separate file named like yourfile-page-4.pdf, where the number is the page position in the original document.

Common uses

  • Separating scanned paperwork. If a scanner saved twenty receipts into one PDF, splitting them gives you one file per receipt for expense reports or bookkeeping.
  • Sending only what is needed. Share a single page of a contract, a certificate or a payslip without exposing the rest of the document.
  • Preparing uploads. Some portals ask for each document as its own file, for example the front and back of an ID card or each page of a form.
  • Reusing pages. Pull out individual pages so you can later put them into a different order or combine them with other files using Merge PDF.

What this tool does not do

To keep expectations clear, here is what the current version cannot do:

  • There is no box for typing page ranges such as 1-5 or 8-12, and no option to split every N pages. Selection is done by clicking thumbnails.
  • Selected pages are not grouped into one file. Each selected page always becomes its own single-page PDF. If you want one PDF that contains only some pages, use Remove PDF Pages to delete the pages you do not need instead.
  • The download is always a ZIP, even when you select a single page. Most operating systems can open ZIP files without extra software.
  • Password-protected PDFs need to be unlocked first, otherwise the file cannot be read.
  • Very long documents take longer to show thumbnails, and memory on your device sets a practical limit on file size.

If you want to change the order of pages or rotate some of them rather than separate them, Organize PDF Pages is the better fit.

Is the quality preserved?

Yes. The pages are copied from the original document into new PDF files, not rendered into images. Text stays selectable and searchable, links and vector graphics stay sharp, and embedded images keep their original quality. Each output file is simply a smaller PDF that contains one page of the original.

Your files stay on your device

Online Toolsz splits the PDF inside your browser. Reading the document, drawing the thumbnails, creating the new files and building the ZIP all happen locally on your computer or phone. The document is not uploaded to our server, so you can safely use the tool with private records such as bank statements or medical letters.

Frequently asked questions

Can I extract a range of pages into one PDF?

Not with this tool. It saves every selected page as a separate file. To get one PDF with a set of pages, remove the pages you do not want with Remove PDF Pages, or split first and then combine the pages you need with Merge PDF.

Why do I get a ZIP file instead of PDFs?

Splitting usually produces several files at once, and a ZIP keeps them together in one download. Double-click the ZIP on Windows or macOS to open it and see the individual PDFs.

How are the output files named?

Each file uses your original file name followed by the page number, such as report-page-1.pdf and report-page-2.pdf, so the pages are easy to put back in order.

Does splitting reduce quality or remove text?

No. Pages are copied as they are, so text remains selectable and images keep their resolution.

Can I split a PDF on my phone?

Yes, the tool works in mobile browsers. For long documents a computer is more comfortable, since the thumbnails are easier to review on a larger screen.
