How to Download Videos to iPhone and Android and Save Them to Your Gallery

How to Download Videos to iPhone and Android and Save Them to Your Gallery

Downloading a video on a phone is the easy part. Finding it afterward is where most people get stuck. You tap download, a little icon flickers, and the clip is nowhere in Photos or the Gallery. That's because phones keep browser downloads in a separate place from your camera roll. This guide shows how to download video to iPhone and Android with a browser-based tool, then move it to the gallery so it behaves like any other clip on your phone.

We'll use the free Online Toolsz video downloader, which runs in mobile browsers and works with public links from YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X. No app, no account.

Before you start

  • Use a real browser. Safari or Chrome on iPhone; Chrome, Samsung Internet or Firefox on Android. Avoid the built-in browser that opens when you tap a link inside Facebook, Instagram or TikTok. Those often ignore downloads. Look for an "Open in browser" option in the menu.
  • Check your free space. On iPhone: Settings, General, iPhone Storage. On Android: Settings, Storage. Video eats space quickly, and a full phone is the most common silent failure.
  • Prefer Wi-Fi for long videos, both to save mobile data and to avoid the download stopping halfway.

How to download a video on your phone

  1. In the app where the video lives, tap Share, then Copy link.
  2. Open your browser and go to the downloader page.
  3. Tap the input box, paste the link, and tap Get Video Info.
  4. Check the card: thumbnail, title, account and duration should match the video you meant.
  5. Tap Fast download if it appears (it pulls a ready-made MP4 straight from the platform), or Download MP4 video (high quality). For sound only, choose the audio button.
  6. Keep the screen on and stay on the page while it says "Preparing video...". Switching apps can interrupt the server-side step.

Where the file goes next depends on your phone.

Saving videos to iPhone: Files to Photos

In Safari

  1. When Safari asks whether you want to download the file, tap Download. Sometimes the video opens in a full-screen player instead; in that case tap the share button and choose Save Video, which sends it straight to Photos.
  2. A download icon appears in the address bar. Tap it to see progress.
  3. When it finishes, open the Files app and go to Downloads. Depending on your settings, that folder is under iCloud Drive or On My iPhone.
  4. Tap the video to open it, tap the share button, then Save Video. It now appears in Photos, in Recents.

To change where Safari puts downloads, go to the Safari section in Settings (under Apps on newer iOS versions) and open Downloads. Choosing On My iPhone keeps big files from filling your iCloud storage.

In Chrome on iPhone

Chrome shows a bar at the bottom when the download completes. Tap Open in and choose Save Video to send it to Photos. If you dismissed the bar, the file is in the Files app under On My iPhone, in the Chrome folder.

Audio files on iPhone

Photos only accepts pictures and video, so an M4A or MP3 stays in Files. You can play it there, or share it to a music, podcast or editing app that accepts audio.

Saving videos to Android: Downloads to Gallery

  1. Chrome shows a notification or a small bar when the download is done. Tap Open to play it right away.
  2. The file sits in the Downloads folder. Open the Files app (Files by Google, My Files on Samsung, or your phone's equivalent) and tap Downloads.
  3. Most gallery apps pick up the Downloads folder automatically. On Samsung, look for a Download album in Gallery. In Google Photos, check the device folders section of your library.
  4. If the video doesn't appear, wait a minute or restart the gallery app. Still missing? Move the file from Downloads into your Movies or DCIM folder with the Files app, and the gallery will index it.

Audio files stay in Downloads and play in any music app or in the Files app itself.

Storage tips that actually help

  • Don't keep two copies. After saving a video to Photos or moving it into the gallery, delete the original from Downloads.
  • Pick the right format. If you only need a voice clip or a song you own, the audio button gives you a much smaller file than the full MP4.
  • Offload to a computer. For large collections, connect the phone with a cable or use a cloud folder and clear the phone afterward.
  • Watch cloud sync. iCloud Photos and Google Photos backup can upload every saved video, which uses cloud space and data.

When nothing happens after tapping download

  • You're in an in-app browser: open the page in Safari or Chrome.
  • The phone is nearly full: free up space and try again.
  • The page shows an error: our article on why video downloads fail explains each message.
  • The file won't play: check that you didn't download the audio-only version, and that the download finished rather than stopping partway.

If you're mostly saving TikToks, the TikTok download guide covers that app's share menu in more detail. Privacy note: links processed by the high-quality and audio buttons go through our download server, which fetches the file and passes it to your phone. You never enter a social media password on our site.

Keep it legal and respectful

Having a video in your gallery is convenient, but the creator still owns it. Save your own uploads, videos you have permission to keep, or content under Creative Commons or in the public domain. Follow each platform's terms and copyright rules, don't re-upload other people's clips, and credit the creator when you share with permission. This isn't legal advice.

FAQ

Why isn't my downloaded video in Photos on iPhone?

Browser downloads go to the Files app first. Open Files, then Downloads, open the video, tap Share and choose Save Video.

Do I need to install an app to download videos on my phone?

No. Everything happens in your mobile browser. The tool doesn't require an install or an account.

Where do downloaded videos go on Android?

To the Downloads folder. Most gallery apps show it automatically; if not, move the file to Movies or DCIM.

Can I save just the audio to my phone?

Yes, with the audio button. You'll get an M4A or MP3 file, which stays in Files on iPhone or Downloads on Android.

Why did the download stop halfway?

Usually a weak connection, a locked screen during "Preparing video...", or low storage. Switch to Wi-Fi, keep the page open, and retry.
